Guwahati: Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the government is not thinking lowering the retirement age of state government employees to 50-55 years. The clarification was made after rumours about the Assam finance department deciding to inspect professional records of state government officials under group A, B and C under the age group 50-55 years spread rapidly.

The report further stated that the process of implementation of the premature retirement of employees would tentatively begin from April-May 2021.

Sarma has rubbished such claims made by a section of media. He assured that the Assam government has not taken any such proposal and that the retirement age of government employees of India is still 60 years.

According to earlier reports, the state government on Monday announced its adherence to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions to integrate guidelines on premature retirement of government employees. It was informed that the step has been taken to confirm the smooth functioning of the public administration.
