GUWAHATI: The members of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha Assam staged a protest on Tuesday demanding fair recruitment in 513 posts before May 10, continuation of the Deen Dayal Divyangjan pension scheme and several other points.

The activists staged the protest near the APSC office in Khanapara and also blocked the road for some time. They were also involved in sloganeering against the State Government during the protest. They also clashed with the police personnel which created a tense situation. The protesters demanded employment opportunities for the differently-abled persons of the State. They also opposed clubbing the disability pension with the Orunodoi scheme in the State.

Secretary of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha Assam, Nripen Malakar said, “We have been protesting against clubbing the previously existing pension for the differently-abled people with the Orunodoi scheme from the very beginning. We even submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on March 1, but no positive response came from the government and a few people from the community were included in the Orunodoi scheme, excluding many more who were receiving the disability pension.”

He also cited Section 24 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 while saying that the people should receive Rs 1,563 instead of Rs 1,250 under Orunodoi.
