Enforcement drive carried out for phasing out single-use plastic in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) and Guwahati Regional Office, Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) jointly carried out enforcement drive at Fancy Bazar, Guwahati against illegal storage, sale and use of banned single use plastic March 30, 2023.

During this drive, 199 kg of banned single use plastic items have been seized from various vendors, and 11 vendors were imposed fine at the rate of Rs.500/- each.

This drive will be carried out in a series up to August, 2023 for enforcement of the Plastic Waste Management ( Amendment) Rules, 2021 for phasing out the following single use plastic items such as Polystyrene (Thermocol) for decoration, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards and cigarette packets, ear buds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, plastic plates, cups, glasses, cutlery such as forks, knives, straw trays and stirrers, plastic or PVC banners less than 100 micron and plastic carry bag below 120 micron.
