Engineers' Day programme to be organized on Sept 15 in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Assam State Centre, Guwahati of the Institution of Engineers (India) is organizing the 55th Engineers' Day on September 15 (Thursday) with a day-long programme at its premises at Panbazar here.

Engineers' Day is observed on September 25 all over India to commemorate the birthday of the builder of modern India, legendary engineer and Bharat Ratna Sir Mokhshagundam Visvesvaraya.

This year, the programme will start at 10:00 am with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and floral tributes by the members before the statue of Sir M Visvesvaraya installed at the campus of the centre. In the afternoon, a meeting will be held under the presidentship of Prof (Dr) NN Patwari, the chairman of the centre. The meeting will be graced by the Dr DN Buragohain, emeritus professor & former Director, IIT, Guwahati as Chief Guest and engineer Kamal Bhuyan, retired Chief General Manager, POWERGRID, as Appointed Speaker. Bhuyan will deliver a talk on the theme 'Smart Engineering for a Better World'. Dr SK Kakoty, former chairman of the centre, will speak on the life and achievement of Sir M Visvesvaraya. Besides these, as per tradition on this auspicious day, seven senior fellows of the institution will be felicitated for their significant contribution to the centre as well as to the society. The September issue of quarterly bulletin of the centre, 'News Letter', will be released by the Chief Guest in the meeting, stated a press release. The organizers have requested all participants to follow Covid protocol while attending the event.
