GUWAHATI: A social organisation named 'Fight Against Injustice of APSC' (FAIA) on Monday requested Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to expand the terms of reference of the Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma Enquiry Committee, which is probing the civil services examinations conducted by the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in 2013, to cover the APSC examinations of 2014 as well.

FAIA administrator Manas Pratim Baruah pointed out that while many of the charges levelled by the prosecution, such as manipulation of answer sheets/tabulation sheets and granting of excessive marks to some candidates in the oral examination, are common to the APSC examinations of both 2013 and 2014, the State Government has asked the Justice (Retd) Biplab Kumar Sarma Enquiry Committee to probe only the first examination.

Baruah further stated that those arrested and charged in court by the Dibrugarh police include candidates from the APSC examinations of both 2013 and 2014. In such a scenario, it is difficult to understand as to why the enquiry committee's brief has been restricted to just one of the controversial examinations, he said.

Baruah further stated that the FAIA has already moved the Gauhati High Court through a Writ Petition (No.WP(C)6442/21) seeking expansion of the enquiry committee's terms of reference and that the court has sought a response from the State Government in this regard.
