GUWAHATI: The Azara Police is on its toes after 11 persons impersonating as Army personnel were held near the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on November 16.

The department is investigating the motive behind the persons committing the crime. The incident is also a blot on the Assam Police as to how the accused were roaming around in a sensitive area like Azara dressed in Army uniform for more than a week.

In this regard, the Azara Police has registered a case (691/2020) U/S 120 (B)/121 (A)/419/120/140/468/471/260/262 IPC.

According to relatives of the accused, Dhriman Krishna Goswami (one of the 11 accused) introduced himself as a high-level officer and had given them fake appointment letters.

There is a very little chance that all the accused were lured by Dhriman Krishna Goswami after he handed appoint letters to them. Nowadays every person is aware that to become an Army personnel one has to go through rigorous training.

Meanwhile, the police are digging deep to find the root of the conspiracy. The gang was produced in front of the Court on Wednesday and has been sent to five-day police remand.
