Farmers training for integrated pest management organized at Kamrup (M)

A two-day Human Resource Development (HRD) programme was conducted at the Regional Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (RCIPMC), Guwahati, Topangtoli, Kamrup (M) on September 20 and 21.

 GUWAHATI: A two-day Human Resource Development (HRD) programme was conducted at the Regional Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (RCIPMC), Guwahati, Topangtoli, Kamrup (M) on September 20 and 21. A total 61 participants attended the programme out of which 49 were female. This programme gave training to the farmers for the judicious use of chemical pesticides and encouraged them to use bio-control agents like Trichoderma viride, Beauvaria bassiana, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Trichogramma spp., as well as naturally produced bio-pesticides (like Neem and Karanj-based bio-pesticides) through integrated pest management (IPM) techniques.

Dr. M. S. Akhtar, Joint Director (Entomology), and his team from the Regional Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Guwahati, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine, and Storage attended the programme. During the training, Dr. J.P. Singh, Plant Protection Adviser (Plant Protection), DPPQ&S, Faridabad, Madhuram Patiri, Joint Director of Agriculture (PP), Directorate of Agriculture, and Sandeep Kumar Bhuyan, Surveillance Officer (PP), Directorate of Agriculture, attended the programme as chief guests and delivered a special lecture on different IPM techniques, from seed sowing to harvesting of crops.

In this programme, they demonstrated different IPM techniques like how to do Seed treatment with bio fungicide and chemical fungicide, safe use of chemical pesticide, agro eco system analysis (AESA) which includes Identification of Pest and Defenders on paddy, mustard & vegetables and ITK technology for the Rodent management, stated a press release.
