Father-Daughter Music Duo’s Tribute To Bhupen Hazarika

GUWAHATI: The popular father-daughter music duo, Dr. Satyendra Kr. Choudhury and Prarthana Choudhury, also alumni of erstwhile ‘Cotton College’ (now, ‘Cotton University’), are back with their new violin-vocals project, on the eve of the premier institute’s 118th anniversary.

This time it is a special tribute to another proud Cottonian- the legend of the soil, the internationally acclaimed creative genius, Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. It celebrates the universality of the legend’s masterpieces by presenting glimpses of their Assamese, Bengali and Hindi versions. This father-daughter duo mashup is now available on Youtube.

The audio has been recorded, and rearranged by none other than ace musician Rupam Talukdar who used to accompany Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the keyboard and the accordion during his studio recordings and stage shows in India and abroad. The video has been created by Nayan Bordoloi and Chandra Kr. Das, from Walkfree Productions.

Dr. Satyendra Kr. Choudhury said, “This is the third project from our father-daughter duo series, and is very close to my heart. It marks our joint tribute to the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’. ‘the voice of humanity’”.

Dr.Choudhury is a renowned academician who served as a Professor in the Chemistry department of Cotton College for 33 years, before he joined the Assam Science and Technology Environment Council (ASTEC) as the Director. He is the author of several Chemistry text books catering to high school, higher secondary and graduate levels. He had earlier released a couple of solo violin albums covering the legend’s songs, and two projects with his daughter as part of the father- daughter duo series.
