GUWAHATI: The ferry services between the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati were resumed on Tuesday. The services were halted a week ago, on August 29, because of the rise in the level of water in the river. The decision was taken by the Inland Water Transport Department after the concerned authorities took stock of the situation and ensured that the water levels had now receded below the danger level in the city. The ferry services will now be available until 8:15 p.m., according to an official of the IWT.

This will benefit a large number of people who have to cross the river on a regular basis for their studies, work, or other liabilities. The ferry services are not only cheap but also drastically reduce the travel time for these people.
