Final journey of Tarun Gogoi begins, scores gather, people from far-flung areas reach to be part of the last journey

Guwahati: The final journey of the former Assam Chief Minister late Tarun Gogoi began on Thursday morning (November 26). The mortal remains were first brought to his official residence in Minister's colony in Dispur.

The body was kept at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakeshtra since Tuesday for people to pay their last respect to the departed leader.

From the official residence, the body was first taken to the Sixth Mile church and from there the body moved towards Naam Ghar (Vaishnavite temple) in Zoo Road. The body will also be taken to the Bura Jame Masjid in Ambari-Gauhati Club area and then to Sukreshwar temple on the banks of The Brahmaputra, then it will be taken to Ugratara Temple in Latasil area of Guwahati.

The body will finally be taken to Navagraha crematorium in Silpukhuri area of Guwahati for the last rites to be performed.

Assam Congress in-charge, Jitender Singh is already part of the funeral procession along with several Congress leaders.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was in Guwahati on Wednesday to pay his last respect to the veteran Congress leader.

The arrangements have already been done at the Navagraha crematorium. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took stock of the arrangements on Wednesday.

Sitting arrangement has been made for as many as many thousand people. A LED screen has been set up so that everyone can view the last rites of their beloved leader.

The- three-time Assam Chief Minister passed away on Monday at 05.34 pm at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after fighting against Covid related segments.
