GUWAHATI: An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed at the Latasil Police Station against Guwahati Press Club president Manoj Nath and general secretary Sanjay Ray for organizing an audio interview of ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent) chief Paresh Barua on February 21.

The FIR has been filed by journalist Biswajit Nath who argued that it is a punishable offence under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 to accept the views of a banned militant outfit's chief through the media.

"The press club president and general secretary was seen (through various news channels' live visuals) on the dais waiting for the call from Paresh Barua with an aim to transfer it to the sound system so that all reporters, who present on the occasion, could listen to him and interact subsequently. However, because of the intervention of the city police the programme could not be organized and it came to an abrupt end. But it is beyond doubts that the present committee of the Guwahati Press Club organized the programme and announced about it in advance. Notably, ULFA-I leader Paresh Barua called them on time accordingly," stated Nath in the FIR.
