GUWAHATI: Every year, floods in Assam wreak havoc on the lives and livelihoods of people. This year, although floods have not hit the State as yet, as a precautionary measure, the State Government has released Rs 71 crore as advance gratuitous relief (GR) to the districts and subdivisions.
Regarding this, the State Revenue and Disaster Management Department has issued a notification and forwarded an intimation to all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Subdivisional Officers (SDOs). This fund has been released to provide ration, utensils and other essential items to flood-affected people who will take shelter in relief camps, and also to provide fodder for cattle and poultry.
Some of the districts and subdivisons that have received the GR fund are – Barpeta (Rs 5 crore), Bongaigaon (Rs 2 crore), Chirang (Rs 1.50 crore), Cachar (Rs 6 crore), Darrang (Rs 3 crore), Dhubri (Rs 4 crore), Dima Hasao (Rs 2 crore), Kamrup (Rs 4 crore), Kamrup (metro) (Rs 1.5 crore), Karimganj (Rs 4 crore), Lakhimpur (Rs 3 crore), Morigaon (Rs 3 crore), Nagaon (Rs 5 crore), Bajali (Rs 3 crore), Gohpur (Rs 2 crore) and Dhakuakhana (Rs 1 crore).
