GUWAHATI: With the rainy season approaching, the Gauhati Commerce College (GCC) boarders are worried about the probability of floods. The boarders are worried as they might bear the brunt of floods this year too.

The boarders on the lower level of the building are a worried lot. One of the boarders says, "This is an age-old problem and is faced every year. Despite having eight water pumps, water still gets inundated in the buildings. Also, pungent water gets through the kitchen and other rooms."

He further said, "During floods, our college remains closed, but some way or another damage occurs, where everything ruins and people’s belongings also get ruined. The students' union has discussed this matter and has asked the authorities to work upon it, but still there is no progress in it."

Another boarder said, "In 2016, the water pumps were installed, and two sewage systems (one in the south and the other in the east) were built. To get rid of the swamp water, a wall was also built. In the last three years, the situation was under control during floods, and we hope this season too will somehow pass. But this cannot be a conclusion; the authorities must take some serious steps to solve the issue."
