GUWAHATI: With Kamrup (metro) district witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Biswajit Pegu has appealed to people to follow COVID appropriate behaviour. The Deputy Commissioner warned that the pandemic was not over yet and as COVID-19 cases in the district had increased in the past few days, people shoultd stricly adhere to COVID rules and protocol.

People should not lower their guard and avoid crowded places, he said while talking to media persons in the city on Friday. He added that people should wear masks and anyone found without masks would be fined heavily. He also said that people must strictly follow all rules of wedding ceremonies and public functions. Anyone found violating these rules will be fined, he warned.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) recently issued a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs). The night curfew timings in the State were revised. The night curfew is now from 11 pm to 5 am every day. The new guidelines cut the number of people attending weddings to a maximum of 50 single-dose vaccinated persons from 200 fully vaccinated persons, in the earlier order issued on October 1.

Fifty people have been allowed to attend the last rites/funeral procession. In 'iconic' religious places, 60 fully vaccinated people have been permitted per hour. Forty fully vaccinated persons will be able to enter other religious centres. Cinema halls and auditoriums have been allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity.
