Forging Assam CM's signature: Mastermind arrested in Delhi

Dispur Police had recently detained four youths on the charge of forging the signature of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to get a contract awarded.

GUWAHATI: Dispur Police had recently detained four youths on the charge of forging the signature of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to get a contract awarded. A team of East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) arrested the absconding mastermind in this case,Imran Shah Choudhury, in Delhi on Sunday.

Four youths – Jamini Mohan, Dipjyoti Dutta, Pankaj Gogoi and Binit Poddar – had submitted a note as sent from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) to the Chief Engineer, PHE. On suspicion, the Chief Engineer informed the CMO for confirmation. The CMO filed a case (3298/21 u/s 406/420/468/471/34 IPC) at Dispur Police Station and the police detained the four youths soon after. According to police sources, the four youths admitted during interrogation that Imran Shah Choudhury had taken Rs 9 lakh from them to take the note addressed to the PHE from the CMO.

The police may bring Imran Shah Choudhury to Guwahati on Monday. Police sources said that two others are under interrogation in connection with this case.

Imran Shah Choudhury is a resident of Lakhimi Nagar in the Hatigaon area in Guwahati.
