GUWAHATI: Former BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) spokesperson Mira Borthakur Goswami joined the Congress party on Tuesday. The joining programme was held at Manabendra Sarma Complex where Congress office bearers from block, district and state level including MLAs and MPs were present.

Congress' senior observer and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, AICC (All Indian Congress Committee) general secretary Mukul Wasnik, AICC secretary Shakeel Ahmad Khan and APCC in-charge Jitendra Singh were also present.

Addressing the joining programme, Goswami said that she has not joined the Congress party to seek party tickets but to douse the flames of various issues.

"Only the Congress can douse the flames of various burning issues. I don't want to contest elections and I have pledged to make the people aware about the BJP's agendas. I will try to unite all parties and organizations to root out the BJP from power in the forthcoming polls. The BJP has formed a Baki Aru Faki (credit and cheating) government. I follow the ideals of late Tarun Gogoi and there are very few nationalist leaders like him in the State," Goswami added.

Along with Goswami, several noted people joined the party during the ceremony including – AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) leader Bharati Saikia, and RTI activist Mohan Rongpi.

During his address, APCC president Ripun Bora stated that on January 23, the party will take out cycle rallies at block level to protest against price hike. He added that from January 27, rallies will be taken out in six zones and from February 1 to 20, booth sanmilans will be conducted in all 126 constituencies of the State.
