Former CM Tarun Gogoi's demise leaves politicians, bodies grieving

Various organizations and political leaders have expressed grief over the demise of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

GUWAHATI: Various organizations and political leaders have expressed grief over the demise of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.

Assam Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami said Tarun Gogoi's demise is an irreparable loss to the society.

Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in a condolence message said, "Tarun Gogoi was a leader of the masses. During his long political career, he always upheld the democratic ethos and values of our country. Tarun Gogoi bore an amiable and amicable personality. The demise of the former Chief Minister is an irreparable loss to our State and to the political scenario of our country."

Chief Minister's Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami said Gogoi's demise is a great loss to people of Assam. Legal advisor to CM SantanuBharali was also disheartened by his demise. Both Goswami and Bharali visited the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital to take stock of Gogoi's health.

Expressing grief Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley said TarunGogoi contributed to the development of Assam during his three consecutive terms.

AGP president and Agriculture Minister Atul Bora in a condolence message said that the State has lost a real and shrewd politician. Among other members of the party, former CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, working president and Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury, and former president BrindabanGoswami expressed grief over the veteran leader's demise. BPF (Bodoland People's Front) president Hagrama Mohilary, Minister Chandan Brahma, Minister RihonDaimary also shared their condolences with the bereaved family.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora said Tarun Gogoi was a popular and shrewd politician.

"The void in the Congress due to the loss of the three term-CM can never be filled. We have lost a guide and a guardian. His death is an end of an era and his ideals will show us the right path forever," Bora added.

All Assam Students' Union president Dipankar Kumar Nath, outgoing general secretary LurinjyotiGogoi, leader Samujjal Bhattacharya were grieved by Gogoi's demise.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said Tarun Gogoi's multifaceted personality will be remembered by everyone. BJP national general secretary Dilip Kumar Saikia, MP Tapan Kumar Gogoi, MP from Rajya Sabha Bhubaneshwar Kalita were also in a mourning state. CPI Assam State Council said his death is an irreparable loss to the State. It also offered sympathy to the bereaved family.

AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal said Gogoi was a shining star of Assam politics and was loved by every section of people. Under his guidance Assam saw a new path of development, Ajmal added.

Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabha, Assam (ITSSA) secretary general Kamala Kanta Mushahary said with Gogoi's death both the country and the State have lost an ideal leader.

Asom Jatiya Parishad convenorJagdish Bhuyan, Sadaou Asom Karmachari Parishad also mourned on his demise. Among media bodies, Gauhati Press Club and Assam Press Correspondents' Union (APCU) offered their condolences.
