Former president of APCC Ripun Borah flays Centre over the economy of country

GUWAHATI: The present Union government has failed to check the rising graph of unemployment in the country. This was stated by MP (Member of Parliament) — Rajya Sabha and former president of APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) Ripun Borah addressing the media at Rajib Bhawan in Guwahati on Saturday. He also alleged that the Indian economy had been in the doldrums during the last seven years.

Giving details, Borah said, "In the public sector, the decrease in jobs during the last seven years is 4,71,306. A total of 53,000 women lost their jobs."

The Congress MP added, "As many as 9 lakh posts are lying vacant at present in the Central government's civil department. As against the 15 lakh sanctioned posts in the Department of Railways, 2.50 lakh posts are vacant.

"Similarly in the Home Department, as many as 72,000 posts of the 10,20,000 sanctioned posts.

Referring to the "sad condition of PSEs (Public Sector Enterprises)", Borah said, "In 2014, profit by PSEs was Rs 88,000 crore. But in 2021, it has come down to Rs 26,104 crore.
