GUWAHATI: The 2nd Employment Working Group (EWG) Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency concluded on Wednesday in Guwahati. This meeting was aimed at building consensus towards the priority areas namely Addressing Global Skill Gaps, Gig and Platform Economy, and Social Protection and Sustainable Financing of Social Security. The delegates also got a taste of the rich Assamese Cultural heritage during the meet.
More than 74 delegates from over 19 G20 member countries, 7 guest countries and 5 international organizations took part in the 2nd EWG meeting.
The meeting began with an address by Rameshwar Teli and Chandra Mohan Patowary followed by the release of a compilation of essays by students on labour issues as a part of Jan Bhagidari initiatives. And continued with several meetings of L20 and B20 groups and ended with a cultural presentation in the Mahabahu Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre.
The 2nd day of the meeting saw discussions on the Draft Ministerial Declaration. The member countries discussed the outcomes on the key priority areas of the EWG with perspectives towards the formulation of the declaration and outcome documented with constructive comments. Short yoga breaks were also part of the schedule and the day ended with a pleasant live musical evening.
On the third day, discussions were undertaken on the Draft Ministerial Communique and the Draft Outcome Document on “Gig and Platform Economy and Social Protection”. Comments and suggestions of the member countries were also discussed in detail.
The three-day 2nd meeting of G20 EWG comprised several Jan Bhagidari activities like cycle rallies, cleanliness drives, mock G20s at schools, tree plantations, seminars and lectures organized by the Assam state government to involve citizens from all walks of life, including students, youth, women, private sector, academics and civil society.
