GUWAHATI: Ganashakti Party (GP) MLA Bhuban Pegu joined the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) officially on Monday. Both the parties are allies in the forthcoming Assembly election.

Pegu joined the party during a ceremony held at the party headquarters at Hengerabari in the presence of State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita and Minister Parimal Suklabaidya.

Additionally, former APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) general secretary Jonali Borgohain, former Congress Minister Sarat Saikia's daughter Rashmita Saikia, and members from several Bengali organizations also joined the saffron party.

Addressing the occasion, party president Dass said, "If a person belongs to Islam religion then it doesn't mean that he/she supports the Congress or the AIUDF. Most of the people who joined today are from Islam religion. It reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi's motto Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas. The people have joined the party as they have been able to assess the achievements of PM Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal."

Further, Dass underlined that every day 3,000 to 5,000 people are joining the BJP from every district.

"The joining programme will continue until the BJP achieves its target of registering 67 lakh members. The people have been able to find difference between the Congress and the BJP. In the forthcoming polls, the BJP will easily achieve 100+ seats," Dass added.
