GUWAHATI: Bharalumukh Police on Saturday, busted a gsng of thieves, and also recovered various stolen items from their possession.
The operation was led following a complaint filed by Pankaj Kumar Das of Santipur, general secretary of the 'Sluice Gate Ganesh Mandir Committee' on August 18. The FIR (First Information Report) stated that on the previous night some unknown miscreants had entered the Ganesh Mandir by breaking the grill lock and stole some cash from a 'Sarai' besides some other valuable utensils.
A case (683/2021 U/S 457/380 IPC) was registered and investigations started.
Further on the next day (August 19), another FIR was received from Mridul Kumar Medhi of Kumarpara, general secretary of 'Shree Shree Rajohuwa Namghar Committee'. The FIR said that on the previous night some unknown miscreants entered their Namghar by breaking the grill lock and stole cash Rs 6,000 from a 'Sarai' besides some other valuable utensils.
Accordingly, a case (689/2021 U/S 457/380 IPC) was registered in Bharalumukh Police Station.
Following investigation, Police arrested the following three accused persons on the evening of August 20. They are Rajesh Singh (25) — son of late Durga Singh, Hajipur Village, under Sadatapur Police Station in Vaishali (Bihar); Rubul Das (24) — son of late Nripen Das, resident of Kamakhya Gate, Adingiri under Jalukbari Police Station; and Raju Boro alias Maina Boro (25) — son of late Jatin Boro, Chengmari Village, under Kokrajhar Police Station and District.
On questioning, they confessed to have stolen the articles from the aforesaid religious places and sold the same to Anowar Hussain (30) — son of Md Sabulla Sheikh of Bhootnath under Bharalumukh Police Station.
Subsequently, the accused person was picked up; and, he led the Police to a person identified as Md Imran Hussain (24) — son of Murtuz Ali, RK Mission Road, under Paltan Bazar Police Station (identified as the second receiver), to whom he had further sold the stolen articles.
Accordingly Md Imran Hussain was arrested along with five of his accomplices namely: Akhtar Hussain (20) — son of Mortaz Ali of Birubari in R.K. Mission Road under Paltan Bazar Police Station in Kamrup (M). He is a permanent resident of Hablakha under Hajo Police Station; Ziaul Haque (25) — son of Sorhab Ali from Khaponi Kuchi under Hajo Police Station in Kamrup; Ayatulla (32) — son of Nurul Islam, a resident of Sorabari under Hajo Police Station in Kamrup; Ainuddin Ali (32) — son of Nurul Ali of Hablakhowa under under Hajo Police Station in Kamrup; Mizanur Rahman (27) — son of Sober Ali of Milpara, also under Hajo Police Station in Kamrup
Altogether 10 persons have been arrested out of whom the following have been taken on Police remand: Rajesh Singh, Raju Boro @ Maina Boro, Anowar Hussain, and Md Imran Hussain.
Further investigation is on to unearth other linkages. The stolen articles that have been recovered include sarais, lamps and other utensils made of brass and bell metal, which were stolen from the temples.
The recovered articles are as follows: Six pairs of bell metal taal; one brass kalash; three bell metal banbatis, one bell metal sarai, five brass thalis, five brass saki stands, four brass gamlas; four small saki stands, 10 brass sarais, one brass service bowl, four bell metal bells, two dhuna danis, three brass incense-stick stands, one brass ashan, one big saki (brass), two brass thalis, a plastic bag containing copper wire and baatis; and a plastic bag containing 21 steel water taps.
