Ganja worth Rs 20 Lakh seized by Northeast Frontier Railway in one week

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered around 158 kg of ganja last week during routine checking at different railway stations and trains

GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered around 158 kg of ganja last week during routine checking at different railway stations and trains. The ganja was recovered at six different railway stations of NF Railway and was worth approximately Rs 20 lakh, stated a press release.

On March 25, an RPF team of Guwahati conducted a drive against contraband articles in train No. 07029 (Agartala-Secunderabad Special) at the Guwahati Railway Station and arrested two persons. During the raid the team recovered around 6.4 kg of ganja from them worth about Rs 64,000. The apprehended persons were handed over to GRP of Guwahati for necessary action.

On the same day, an RPF team of Lumding post conducted a drive at the Lumding Railway Station and recovered around 10 kg of ganja worth about Rs 1 lakh from a coach in train No. 15909 (Avadh Assam Express). Later, the recovered cannabis was handed over to GRP, Lumding, for further course of action. On the same day, the RPF team from the Lumding post recovered around 38 kg. of ganja worth about Rs 3.80 lakh from train No. 13176 (Kanchanjunga Express). The recovered ganja was handed over to GRP, Lumding for necessary action.

At Badarpur Railway Station, the RPF team of Badarpur post, with the help of the dog squad, recovered 11.30 kg of ganja worth around Rs 1.13 lakh on March 25 from train No. 15663 (Agartala- Silchar Express). The seized ganja was handed over to GRP, Badarpur for further action.

On March 22, the RPF of Agartala post, during routine checking at the Agartala Railway Station, seized 43 kg of ganja worth about Rs. 4.30 lakh from train No. 13174 (Kanchanjunga Express). Similarly, in another incident at Jirania Railway Station, an RPF team of Agartala post recovered 38 kg of ganja worth about Rs 3.80 lakhs from train No. 05675 (Agartala- Dharmanagar Special). Later, the seized ganja was handed over to GRP of Agartala for further course of action.

In another incident of March 22, a team of RPF, Dharmanagar post during a routine checking seized around 40 kg of ganja worth about Rs. 4 lakh from train No. 13174 (Kanchangunga Express) at the Dharmanagar Railway Station. The recovered ganja was handed over to Excise Department of Dharmanagar, North Tripura for disposal.

On the same day, the RPF dog squad of Badarpur recovered around 14 kg of ganja worth about Rs 1.40 lakh from a coach in train No. 15663 (Agartala-Silchar Express) in between the Kalkalighat and Patharkandi section. Later it was handed over to GRP, Badarpur for necessary action.
