Gauhati Commerce College to unveil statue of founder principal

GUWAHATI: Gauhati Commerce College (GCC), the North-East's premier educational institution specializing in the domain of Commerce education, will commemorate its 60th Foundation Day (Diamond Jubilee Closing Ceremony) on September 10.

The programme, to be held under the leadership of GCC's principal Dr Homeswar Kalita, will commence with hoisting of the ceremonial flag and will be followed by unveiling of a statue of the founder principal of the college, Late Dr Bhagawan Chandra Lahkar, in the presence of his wife Dipali Lahkar.

According to a press release, the idea of erecting a statue of the founder principal was conceived by his favourite student Aneel Goenka, who also happens to be the president of Alcom. The statue has been built by Goenka and his 1985 alumni batch as a token of reverence.

To mark the unfading glory of this great institution, GCC Alumni Association will organize its 4th Alumni Meet on the September 11. Following this, the dignitaries shall gather in Dr BC Lahkar Auditorium, wherein the souvenir of the Alumni Association, 'ALCOM - Ek Aatmik Jatra' shall be released in the presence of distinguished personalities of the State.
