GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has ordered the Assam Home Department to submit the status report in the case against Garga Chatterjee before January 27.
Last year, Chatterjee from West Bengal, came into the limelight in Assam for his controversial remarks against Chaolung Sukhapha. Following massive public outcry, the Guwahati Crime Branch registered a case against him.
Earlier, the Gauhati High Court in an order asked the Assam Police to submit an affidavit regarding Chatterjee's case. The Assam Police in its affidavit mentioned that due to non-cooperative manner of the West Bengal Police, the police team that went to Kolkata was not successful in nabbing Chatterjee.
In this regard, a writ petition was filed by Banashree Gogoi, a resident of Guwahati at the court under case no. WP©/3637/2020. The petitioner alleged that the police have not taken strict measures to nab Chatterjee thus leading to delay in the case.
During the hearing of the matter on Tuesday, the Court demanded the status report in sealed cover from the Assam Police before the next date of hearing on January 27.
