Gauhati High Court grants bail to APSC ex-chairman Rakesh Paul

GUWAHATI: One of the prime accused of the Assam Public Service Commission's (APSC) 'cash for job' scam, former chairman of the organization, Rakesh Paul was granted bail by the Gauhati High Court on Friday.

He was granted bail by Justice Devashis Baruah in the case charging him with accepting money for the positions of civil service. The court has granted him bail under Section 436A with several limitations on his movement.

The judgement also directed Rakesh Paul to pay the bail amount of Rs 100000 with two sureties for the like amount to the Special Judge. He has been barred from leaving the city of Guwahati without prior intimation and permission from the judge and his passport has to be surrendered to the Special Judge.

He has also been prohibited from contacting any of the witnesses mentioned in the charge sheet. He has been ordered not to directly or indirectly make any inducement, threat or promise to any of the witnesses so as to dissuade them from disclosing such facts to the Court.

Rakesh Paul has also been ordered by Special Judge to attend all hearings without fail and not cause any delay in the proceedings of the court in the matter. Even in case of any medical emergency, he shall apprise the situation with the Special Judge and may move out of the state if the judge deems fit.
