Gauhati High Court issues guidelines for functioning of courts amidst COVID-19 pandemic

The Gauhati High Court on Friday issued a slew of guidelines regarding the functioning of its Principal Seat and Outlying Benches amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Friday issued a slew of guidelines regarding the functioning of its Principal Seat and Outlying Benches amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the guidelines, all Courts in the Principal Seat will function in virtual mode. However, in respect of the Outlying Benches, the Senior-Most Judge at the station may decide the mode of functioning of the Courts depending on the local COVID-19 situation. All types of cases will be listed, except matters pending for hearing. However, hearing matters may be listed, if the mention is allowed by Court.

Members of the staff of all Grades who are fully vaccinated, except those who are 55 years of age and above, will attend the office every working day. Members who have not received any dose or who have received a single dose of COVID-19 vaccine will attend the office every alternate day. Entry of outsiders will be strictly prohibited in the Court premises unless specifically directed by the concerned authority or unless the personal appearance of a party is required in a judicial proceeding. No person, except the advocates/parties appearing in person, who are to address arguments, will be permitted in the Courtroom. Bar rooms and canteens will remain closes.
