Delay in arrest of abusers of Sukapha
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has issued show-cause notices to the Chief Secretary of West Bengal and the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata over the reported non-cooperation of that State's police with the Assam Police in executing arrest warrants issued against Garga Chatterjee and Ranjan Mazumdar, who made certain objectionable remarks against the founder of the Ahom dynasty, Swargadeo Sukapha.
It may be mentioned that the Crime Branch had registered a suo moto case (10/2020) against Chatterjee and Mazumdar and an advocate named Banashree Gogoi later filed an FIR against the duo at the Latasil Police Station. Both the cases are being investigated by the Crime Branch.
The High Court issued the show-causes notices during hearing of a Writ Petition (3637/2020) after the State Government's counsel informed it that two separate non-bailable arrest warrants against Chatterjee and Mazumdar, issued by the SDJM court, could not be executed due to lack of assistance from the West Bengal Police.
