Gauhati High Court seeks affidavit on corruption in BTC

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has directed the Principal Secretary of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to submit an affidavit within eight weeks regarding the veracity of allegations of corruption in the council.

Hearing a PIL (No. 75/2020) which alleged that rampant corruption is taking place at various levels in the BTC, the court noted that even the counsel representing the BTC has admitted this fact. In this regard, a letter of the Principal Secretary of the BTC has been submitted and made part of the record, the court further noted.

The court said: "We would like to know from the authorities as to what step has been taken by the authorities of BTC inasmuch as whether they have set up an enquiry to know as to what corruption is going on and as to who are the Government officials, involved in it."

Hearing of the matter will resume on April 26.
