GUWAHATI: Reiterating their demand for rollback of the National Pension System (NPS) and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), members of the Gauhati University Employees' Association on Thursday took out a protest rally from the academic block of the university to the administrative block. They later held a protest meeting.
In the meeting, Dr Amrit Pal Singh, Dr Vikash Gogoi, Dr Dilip Kumar Kakoti and All Assam Government Employees' NPS Association president Achyutananda Hazarika were present. They said that State Government employees were worried about their financial future. To secure the future of the employees, they demanded that OPS should be restored. They added that they would intensify their stir in support of their demand.
The meeting also adopted a resolution to hold 100 meetings on this issue from May onwards from Dhubri to Sadiya and from the Barak Valley to the hill districts.
