A webinar on ‘Prevention and Control of COVID -19 with Focus on India’s Vaccination Drive’ was organized by Gauhati University NSS Cell on June 25.

GUWAHATI: A webinar on 'Prevention and Control of COVID -19 with Focus on India's Vaccination Drive' was organized by Gauhati University NSS Cell on June 25.

Inaugurating the webinar on behalf of Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner, Anurag Rudra, Assistant Commissioner, Kamrup Metro said that vaccine is the best tool against coronavirus to prevent infection and mortality. Rudra praised the resilience showed by the health care professionals in tackling the situation and also praised the NSS volunteers, ASHA workers and others for extending help during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attending the webinar Professor Tulshi Bezboruah, Dean, Faculty of Technology, GU urged everyone to take the vaccine and to maintain COVID protocol for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Attending as speaker Dr Simanta Das, Consultant Pathologist said that there is a lack of awareness on COVID -19 and said that for combating COVID-19, the only way is to get vaccinated.

Dr Dipankar Manna, Research Scientist, Oslo University, Norway also attended the webinar as a resource person and said that though it takes many years to develop a vaccine, we were lucky that COVID-19 vaccines were developed in 11 months. He advised everyone to use face masks, maintaining social distance and take the vaccine to prevent further spread of the virus.

Bidyut Thakuria from Germany and Jan Custovic from Croatia both founder and co-founder of techcoffee.com attended the webinar and shared their views on the present situation in their countries.

The webinar was moderated by Dr Rituparna Borah, NSS Programme Officer, GU NSS Unit. Around 200 participants across the world and NSS volunteers, programme officers and members of the GU fraternity attended the webinar.
