Gauhati University organizes Webinar on National Education Policy

GUWAHATI: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Gauhati University successfully conducted a Webinar on National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 on Tuesday when more than 300 participants took part in the deliberations.

While GU Registrar Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath mentioned the paradigm of excellence, restructuring of higher education, and mapping etc. in detail, Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique covered the entire gamut of NEP-2020 in his keynote address. Prof. Handique basically highlighted the specific role in implementation of NEP-2020, where he mentioned the notable changes, evolution of education policy, advantages, disadvantages, institutional restructuring and consolidation, major reforms like Indian knowledge system, use of technology, etc. in detail. Prof. Handique also pointed the holistic and multidisciplinary education, credit transfer, HEIS, MERU, etc. He talked about optimal learning environments and support for students, research funding, regulatory body, setting up of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) for regulation NHREC, Accreditation NAAC, funding HEGC, academic stand and setting GEC. At the end, Prof. Handique pointed out that the HECI would be the umbrella for it.

Prof. Akhil Ranjan Dutta, president of Gauhati University Teachers' Association; Dr. Sarat Borkakati, president, Assam College Principal Council; Dr Anupam Dutta, academic secretary, Assam College Teachers' Association; Prof. Asha Kothari Choudhury, Deprtment of English, G.U. spoke and shared their views on NEP, 2020, a press release said.
