Gaurav Gogoi Raises Northeast Urea Scarcity In Lok Sabha

GUWAHATI: Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi raised the issue of shortage of urea in the Northeast on the floor of the Lok Sabha on Tuesday through a supplementary question.

Gaurav Gogoi said that the Northeast only has one gas-based fertilizer plant, the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited where the production has not reached its maximum capacity. The Unit 4 of this plant, according to the MP, is not producing. The same concern was raised by him to the previous government. He also inquired upon the government’s plan to increase production through unit four of the plant, a statement issued to the press said. The Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers informed the House that the Fourth unit has reached its final stage and will start production soon. The minister plans to follow up on the Unit through a visit, when the current session of the Parliament comes to an end, the statement said.
