Gearing for Lok Sabha poll, BJP core committee holds meet in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The meeting of the State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Core Committee was held on Monday at Atal Bihari Vajapyee Bhawan, which was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, Organizational General Secretary B Rabindra Raju, and all members of the core committee. In the meeting, there were discussions about the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and a focus on putting an end to the ongoing fighting in the party over the suicide of party leader Indrani Tahbildar.

In a press statement, state BJP and Assam Pradesh spokespersons Rupam Goswami and Subhash Dutta said the BJP has stepped up its organizational activities in Assam in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The BJP has launched a voter awareness campaign in the state along with the Election Commission’s revision of the voter lists. The party has already held a state workshop at its headquarters, and a workshop each will be held on August 29 in 126 assembly constituencies in Assam to ensure smooth revision of voter lists, inclusion of new names, deletion, and transfer of names of deceased persons.

The workshop will be attended by the presidents of each Mandal, shakti kendra heads, booth presidents, booth-level agents, and MLAs. “This time, we are focusing on winning all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam,” Subhash Dutta said.

Subhash Dutta said, “There are already appointed vistarok in 29 assembly constituencies in Kaliabor (Kaziranga), Nagaon, and Barpeta Lok Sabha constituencies where our party does not have MPs. The party’s top leadership has already increased its organizational activities in all the Lok Sabha constituencies on the basis of the Lok Sabha Prabhak Yojana.”

State BJP Assam Pradesh headquarters held a meeting of the Social Media and Information Technology Cell at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan on Monday in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The 11-member group of social media cells of each Lok Sabha constituency, as well as the convenors and co-convenors of district social media cells, participated in the meeting. The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma, State President Bhabesh Kalita, Organizational General Secretary Rabindra Raju, and General Secretary Pallab Lochan Das. The meeting emphasised ensuring that the party workers in charge of social media can fulfil their duties with double enthusiasm in view of the Lok Sabha elections. Dutta said that the BJP workers in the state are carrying out their duties while six MLAs from Assam are campaigning in Madhya Pradesh, eleven in Chhattisgarh, and one in Mizoram.
