GUWAHATI: With the demand of climate justice and declaration of climate emergency, Guwahati is participating in the Global Climate Strike that will be held across 117 nations on September 20. Students from Handique Girls College were seen holding placards by appealing the conscious citizens to join hands in the strike under the banner ‘Fridays For Future’ at different locations near Dighalipukhri.
The strike will start at Dighalipukhri entrance at 3 PM on September 20. Shrishendu Sekhar Das, one of the organizers of this strike said, “It will be our seventh strike in the city. We have organized six strikes outside different educational institutions like Gauhati Commerce College, Gauhati University, Cotton College State University and Handique College. We have interacted with the students on various issues like degradation of forests, the burning Amazon rainforests, the rising air pollution, use of fossil fuels etc. Besides workshop on climate change, some other initiatives are also taken including workshop on climate issues, screening of movies and documentaries and also a flash mob in Roodraksh mall to spread awareness.”
