Global Climate Strike Rally in Guwahati City Today

GUWAHATI: With the aim to reach out the government in the global movement of creating awareness regarding climate Change, Guwahati’s Fridays For Future is going to conduct Global Climate Strike on November 29 at Dighalipukhuri that will be starting from 2 pm onwards.

Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club, the Strike organizing team said that it is high time for the government to keep Climate as one of most important matter of concern and it should take stern actions to make things go in favour of the environment for a better and sustainable living for the current and future generation as well.

The movement demands for the implementation of various laws. Their main demands include – implementation of Ban on Single Use Plastics, Implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and Setting up Sewage Treatment Plant in Guwahati.

One of the strike organizer Srishendu Sekhar Das said, “Our basic aim to reach the government because, as a concerned citizen we need transparency regarding the laws that have already been passed. Many laws have been passed by the government in environmental purpose, but we’ve never witnessed a fully fledged implementation of such laws.”

The strike organizers said that they are expecting more than five hundred conscious citizens from across the city to join the global movement. The strikers demanded that no trees should cut, for the construction of the proposed bridge connecting North Guwahati to South Guwahati. The team said that the movement is aimed at making people realize on how climate change is largely affecting the present generations.
