GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) commissioner visited the Nabagraha Crematorium and took stock of the gas-based cementation centre which has been non-operational for a long time.
Further the newly appointed commissioner, Devasish Sharma inspected the mechanism of the gas-based cementation centre and urged to re-start it as soon as possible.
Speaking to the media, the commissioner said, "In a city like Guwahati, gas-based cementation centre is very important and with due repair and maintenance it will be used again."
Notably, in 2012, former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi inaugurated the gas-based cementation centre at Nabagraha in Guwahati, however, it was not been used for a long time since the inauguration.
The gas-based cementation centre was constructed under the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and because of maintenance, it was not in a working state.
