GUWAHATI: The Council Body of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) completed one year and the officials including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor addressed the members of the press to present a report of the work done in the past year. The event was hosted on Saturday in the GMC Conference Hall in Uzanbazar of Guwahati.
The Mayor, Mrigen Sarania said that the council has been able to register steady growth and the Corporation has seen an increase in revenue collection from property tax, trade license, etc. He also mentioned the Corporation has invested in several infrastructural and developmental schemes and projects including setting up several garbage transfer stations and waste management projects at Boragaon.
In terms of revenue collection, the Corporation has seen a 53 per cent hike in property tax, 9 per cent in trade licenses and 40 per cent in various other branches, accounting for an overall 42 per cent increase in revenue in the financial year 2022-23 compared to the previous. The number of holding numbers issued has increased from 2.5 lakh to 3.54 lakh during this time frame along with the linking of holding numbers to APDCL consumer numbers.
As a part of infrastructure development, the “Landfill Mining of Boragaon Dump-site at Guwahati as per CPCB Guidelines for legacy waste disposal 2021" has been initiated by GMC at an estimated cost of Rs 172 crore and Construction of Compost & RDF Pant of 150 TPD (Mixed Municipal Solid Waste) at Belortol in Guwahati has been initiated with a Project Cost of Rs 30.91 crore. Recovery Facilities in Adabari, Old Jail Campus (Fancy Bazar) and Mathghoria with the estimated cost of 13.84 crore, 14.50 crore and 9.34 crore respectively have also been initiated.
He also informed that the construction work of various roads, community halls, cremation grounds, public toilets and daily bazaars is being undertaken in each ward under GMC to benefit the residents of the city.
