'We'll try to make Guwahati beautiful in every way'

GUWAHATI: After the massive victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) alliance in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election, results of which were declared on Sunday, the chiefs of both the parties thanked the people for their overwhelming support and said that they will try to make Guwahati beautiful in every way.

Talking to The Sentinel, AGP president and Cabinet Minister Atul Bora said that both the AGP and the BJP had contested the GMC election on the plank of development and in view of the fact that the voters had reposed massive faith in the two parties, Dispur's support will always be with the GMC.

Bora said that it is the dream of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to make Assam and Guwahati beautiful overall, and this dream has the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He expressed confidence that along with the support of the State Government, the newly-elected councillors will also try level best to serve the people of Guwahati and resolve their problems.

Meanwhile, BJP State president Bhabesh Kalita also said that since the people of the city had accepted the agenda of development, the Government's main mantra will be all-round development of Guwahati in the coming days.

Kalita termed the massive support reposed by people as a vote of confidence in the performance of the BJP-led Government in the State in its previous five-year term and the 11-month rule of the incumbent Government.
