GMC imposes Rs. 44,000 fine on Fancy Bazar for plastic violation

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) authorities have conducted a strict operation regarding the ban and use of plastic in the city.

Guwahati: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) imposed a penalty of Rs 44,000 for selling plastics of less than 50 microns at Fancy Bazar.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) tweeted on Thursday, "A penalty of 44000/- imposed today for selling plastics less than 50 microns at Fancy bazar market complex. Plastic materials weighing 52 kg also were seized."

Navdeep Changmai, GMC Collector said, "We have started our drive against usage of plastics which are not permissible."

Plastic materials weighing 52kg were also seized during the drive.

Guwahati Municipal Corporation authorities have conducted a strict operation regarding the ban and use of plastic in the city. Thinner plastic bags less than 50 microns are openly used by the vendors in the city.

Earlier, the Central Government had issued a notification under the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, banning the usage and manufacturing of single-use plastic which is thinner and less than 50 microns.
