GUWAHATI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is looking to make its presence felt in Assam. The party has fielded 40 candidates in 40 out of 60 wards for the forthcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) polls.

AAP Assam state coordinator Baren Chowdhury said that buoyed by its first victory in two municipal wards in Lakhimpur and Tinsukia districts in last month's civic polls, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was trying to promote morality in politics and such principles would help the party broaden its base in Assam and other north-eastern States. In the GMC elections, AAP will try to position itself as an alternative to the two national parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.
