Guwahati: With three days left for the Guwahati Municipal Elections (GMC), the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday started its campaign, promising improved infrastructure for people.
Sarma campaigned for the party's candidates before the GMC elections at Garigaon and Kalapahar on Monday, where he targeted the opposition parties, including Aam Aadmi Party.
"In the next four years, we promise to set up government hospitals, provide drinking water to maximum households, and improve other infrastructure facilities in the GMC wards," he said.
He also announced to earmark Rs 600 crore for the 60 wards of Guwahati.
"Assam government has decided to earmark Rs. 600 Crore only for the 60 wards of Guwahati. A sum of Rs 10 crore will be expensed only for the development of roads and infrastructure. This is a promise from the CM," he added.
The Assam CM also asserted that several state government departmental offices in Guwahati will be relocated to Betkuchi, on the outskirts of the city, in order to decongest the metropolis.
He also expressed confidence that the BJP and its allies will win the GMC elections.
"I am convinced that all of the Assam BJP-led alliance's candidates will sweep the polls on April 22. There is almost no opponent in front of the BJP in the GMC elections," he claimed.
