GMC Polls: BJP Files FIR Against AAP For Violating Poll Code

Guwahati: The BJP IT cell has filed an FIR against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for violating the poll code during the 'Silence Period'. This period usually begins 48 hours before the voting day and concludes after the end of the polls.

The polling for the GMC elections kicked off at various polling stations in Guwahati from 7.30 am on April 22 and the voting process will come to an end at 4.30 pm on the same day.

The BJP has lodged the FIR at the Dispur police station and Palash Lahan, who currently holds the post of Convenor, State Social Media Cell, BJP, has said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has violated the election rules/guidelines during the 'Silence Period'.

He has also accused the AAP of continuing with their online election campaign during the last 48 hours before polling.

The Facebook link of AAP was shared by the BJP IT cell with the Dispur police in the FIR copy.

It is to be noted that the elections of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation are taking place after a gap of nine years and Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) are being used for the first time in all 60 wards under the GMC.

As many as 197 candidates are in contention in 57 wards, but BJP candidates in three wards have already been elected without even contesting.

Meanwhile, there are a total of 757 polling stations which have been set up for the GMC elections and women polling officials are conducting 80 polling stations on their own.
