GUWAHATI: The family of Lakhimi Chetry lodged an FIR in the Bhangagarh police station today on the charge that the people manning the mortuary at the GMCH handed over the body of Lakhimi Chetry to another party mistakenly.

Lakhimi Chetry was from Amsing, Jorabat, under Satgaon police station. Her body was kept in the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital) mortuary on May 1. Her family members came to claim her body, but they found it missing on Wednesday. According to the police sources, the body of Sewali Rajbongshi from Basistha was also kept in the mortuary on the same day, i.e., on May 1. The family of Sewali Rajbongshi took possession of a body and completed the last rites on Tuesday.

The police asked the family members of Sewali Rajbongshi to come to the police station. When the family members of Sewali came to the police station, it came to light that the people manning the mortuary mistakenly handed over the body of Lakhimi Chetry, instead of Sewali Rajbongshi, to the kin of Sewali Rajbongshi. And after that, the family members of Sewali identified her body in the mortuary.
