Guwahati: As many as 3 COVID-19 patients hailing from Guwahati city today succumbed to death due to virus-related complications, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
"Sad and anguished to inform that 3 COVID patients - Sri Ashok Jain (63) of Athgaon, Sri Vinod Kumar (47) of Jalukbari and Mrs. Dipali Dutta (65) of Sarumataria admitted at GMCH succumbed to their infection today. They had severe pneumonia and were on invasive ventilation. Condolences!", the health minister informed via a tweet.
This revelation has been made at a time when the COVID-19 casualty graph is rising at a steady and alarming rate not only in Guwahati but across all of Assam. With these two casualties, the number of COVID-19 related deaths within the day has now risen to 8, as 5 more patients had expired in the morning.
"Very sad to inform that four #COVID patients - Sri Rakhal Deb (42), Sri Ramesh Kayastha (68), Sri Sukhamay Bhowmik (72), Smt Arahi Baruah Saikia (70); admitted at GMCH ICU succumbed to the infection. My heartfelt condolences to their families", Sarma tweeted after their demise.
Sarma reported another death, reported from the COVID care facility in the IIT(G) in another tweet. He informed, "With a heavy heart I inform you that Shri Hareswar Nath, 53 years old, a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to COVID 19 at IITG COVID care centre.His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed."
Meanwhile, with the addition of hundreds of fresh cases on a regular basis, the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has soared past 14,000. As on Friday midnight, the number of COVID-19 cases in Assam had reached 14,600, out of which 5,423 cases were active.
