GMCH Superintendent Advises People Not To Take Omicron Lightly

He further said that the COVID positivity rate in the state again has seen a rise and informed that yesterday more than 300 positive cases had been detected in the state.

Guwahati: Despite Assam has not reported the omicron case till now, Dr Abhijit Sarma, Superintendent of the Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) expressed apprehensions that the international travels could carry the germ into the state and advised people not take omicron lightly.

Talking to media, Dr. Sarma said that usually lots of international travelers visit the state in the winter and in a bid to assure that no international traveler could carry the deadly virus with them in the state, the state health department has arranged check-ups at the airports.

Appealing to the people to remain cautious and follow COVID protocols appropriately, Dr. Sarma also said, "Assam has not reported a single Omicron case so far. But that does not mean that no omicron infection would occur in the state. People should obey the COVID protocols like wearing of masks, abdication of large crowd and washing of hands."

He further said that the COVID positivity rate in the state again has seen a rise and informed that yesterday more than 300 positive cases had been detected in the state.

"People should not panic. But all should be cautious. Yesterday Assam reported over 300 positive cases. 67 COVID patients have been admitted in the GMCH. Out of them 7 patients have been undergoing treatments at the ICU, "he added.
