GUWAHATI: On the occasion of World Heart Day (WHD), GNRC Hospitals organized a press conference at their Dispur campus to highlight the significance of adopting preventive measures for reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases among individuals.
The press meet began with a welcome address by Dr Sunil Dawka, Chief Consultant, Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery, GNRC Hospitals. He highlighted the theme for World Heart Day being “Be a Heart Hero”, and urged the citizens to care for their hearts and also spread awareness about cardiovascular diseases. Dr Dawaka also added, we can all be heart heroes by making a promise to ourselves and also helping our friends, our family, our patients, our employees to adapt healthy lifestyles and quit the bad habits by making a simple promise.
The program continued by a short educative talk by Dr Jayanata Gogoi, Cardiologist, GNRC, Sixmile, on how to be a “Heart Hero”. Speaking about heart attacks and its management, Dr. PK Gupta, Consultant Cardiologist stated that the solution to prevent individuals from heart related diseases is lifestyle management, along with regular check-ups. “Today’s frightening narrative about cardiovascular diseases can be altered if we, as part of the community, the nation and the world resolve to be a Heart Hero,” He further asserted that a healthy diet and regular exercise must be made a daily routine in order to stay fit and healthy. Further, alcohol and caffeine consumption must be reduced and smokers must show determination to quit, a press release stated.
