Governor Gulab Chand Kataria releases book on Assam tea industry

 GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria released a book titled Chah Aru Asomor Chah Janagosthi on Monday. The book, written by Omprakash Gattani, has two versions – one in Assamese and another in Hindi. The foreword of the book is written by Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha).

After releasing the book, Kataria said, “The writer deserves appreciation for writing a book covering all aspects of 200 years of Assam tea industry.”

The writer, Omprakash Gattani is an industrialist based in Jorhat and is also a well-known author, philanthropist and owner of Bokakhat Tea Estate. The book release function was organized in association with North Eastern Tea Association (NETA). NETA adviser Bidyananda Barkakoty, who was present during the book release function, said, “It is an excellent book on tea and the tea community coinciding with 200 years of Assam Tea. Tea workers are the backbone of this eco-friendly heritage industry and the writer has been able to cover the entire spectrum of tea cultivation and its people.”

The book Chah Aru Asomor Chah Janagosthi has chapters on history of tea, bringing of workers to Assam by British from different parts of the country to work in tea plantations, the life and conditions of workers during British Raj and after Independence, contribution of tea garden community to socio-cultural field of Assam, pioneering tea planters of Assam, different festivals of tea community, role of tea community in the political scenario of Assam, contribution of tea planters etc.

The book release function was attended by MLA of Nokha (Rajasthan), Biharilal Bishnoi, leading businessmen Kailash Lohia, Askok Dhanuka and many others, stated a press release.
