GUWAHATI: Gossip goes in the State that the demise of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will make the parties lose cement to keep them together to make the proposed grand alliance a reality. However, against this backdrop, APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) president Ripun Bora said that the grand alliance will be a reality in the forthcoming Assembly election.

The APCC recalled the former Chief Minister at a function at Rajiv Bhawan here on Sunday. Speaking to the media after the function, Bora said, "It was the concept of Late Tarun Gogoi to stitch a grand alliance in the State with the Congress, AIUDF and other like-minded parties. We're going to take this concept ahead. We've already informed the party high command of the proposed grand alliance in the State. After getting the nod from the party high command, we'll go ahead with the alliance. Translating the grand alliance into a reality will be right respect to Gogoi wish."

When asked as to who will get Congress ticket from Titabor LAC in the forthcoming Assembly election, Bora said, "We've let the family of the former Chief Minister decide as to who the party should project as its candidate from Titabor LAC."

Besides an all-religion prayer, various leaders spoke on Tarun Gogoi and took the pledge to take the Congress forward with Gogoi's ideology.

CLP (Congress Legislature Party) leader Debabrata Saikia said, "Gogoi's long political career is simply matchless. Before 2001 the financial condition of Assam was pathetic. The government was not in a position to pay employees their salaries. So much so that even the hospitals faced scarcity of paper to prescribe medicines. To cap it all, the government put a ban on appointments in the state. However, it was TarunGogoi who brought the financial condition of the state back on track. We need to make the State stride with the policies and ideology of Gogoi."
