GUWAHATI, Sept 3: Come October 31, 2018, Gun0tsav is to begin in the elementary schools in the State. The drive is to continue till November 3 this year. This is the first phase of Gunotsav in its second consecutive year.

However, what is evident is that this year’s first phase of Gunotsav is being started even before the fulfillment of some of the promises made in the three-phase Gunotsav drive carried out in the State in last year. During the Gunotsav last year, Dispur did say that apart from quality education it was keenly observing the infrastructure aspect of educational institutions in the State. The then State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was on record saying that Rs 900 crore would be required for the development of school infrastructure like toilet facilities, partitions, campus fencing etc. He also said that schools achieving A+ grade would be awarded Rs 25,000 each. However, no schools getting A+ grade has got the promised amount as yet. This apart, none of the schools has got any grants for the development of infrastructure as yet. However, the 2018-19 Budget has allocations for the development of school infrastructure.
