GUWAHATI: Faced with a shortage of competent evaluators in certain districts, the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission (SSA) authority has modified modalities with regard to External Evaluators (EEs) who will be deployed in the ensuing Gunotsav 2022.

This move has come after some districts informed the SSA that the required numbers of EEs are not available locally. The SSA has, therefore, asked districts with a surplus of competent EEs to impart training to some of them for performing duty in nearby districts which lack sufficient EEs on their own.

The first phase of the EEs' training will take place within May 9.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had presided over a review meeting of the Education Department on January 23. Apart from finalizing the time frame of Gunotsav 2022, it was decided at the meeting that Grade-I and Grade-II Government officers along with college teachers and post-graduate teachers would be engaged as External Evaluators in the event. Besides, it was decided that retired Grade-I and Grade-II officers, retired reputed professors/teachers and Central Government employees would also be deputed as external evaluators.

It is noteworthy that despite the considerably wide ambit of eligibility criteria of EEs fixed by the SSA, many a district has been unable to muster sufficient EEs to conduct the Gunotsav 2022.

The SSA has recently also directed that students who changed schools after the last academic year must be brought back to their original schools on the day of Gunotsav in view of the fact that the evaluation of learners in Gunotsav 2022 is being organized on the basis of the learning outcomes of the previous academic years.

After being rescheduled twice, Gunotsav 2022 will be now held in three phases from May 11 to June 4.

Self-evaluation will be now held in 11 districts - Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Karimganj, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Nalbari districts - on May 11, while external evaluation in these districts will be held on May 12, May 13 and May 14. Similarly, self-evaluation will be now held in the Barpeta, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara-Mankachar, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts on May 23, while external evaluation will be held on May 24, May 25 and May 26. On the other hand, self-evaluation will be held in the Baksa, Cachar, Chirang, Dhubri, Dima Hasao, Jorhat, Kamrup (Metro), Lakhimpur, Sonitpur and West Karbi Anglong districts on June 1, while external evaluation will be held on June 2, June 3 and June 4.
